New Niche Social Network ‘Tipd.com' Officially Launches Today
At 10e20, we like to keep on top of things happening in the Internet world and we’ve been keenly watching Tipd.com since its beta launch a few weeks ago. Today, they officially launch Tip’d 1.0. Tip’d is a hot new social media site for financing, investing and business topics. Given the current financial state of the world, we think that Tip’d will quickly become your number one choice for learning about all things financial.
To help ensure that Tip’d always features the latest and the best financial news and content, they’ve been building relationships with publishers in the niche. These connections have help them get engaging, interesting and factual content.
Based on feedback from their beta launch from community members, they’ve been working feverishly to make changes and improvements. Here are just a few of the major ones:
• They’ve added two new categories that were in high demand: business and entrepreneurship.
• The ‘topple’ functionality has been overhauled and is more robust.
• Stories now show time made popular along with the time submitted.
• You can subscribe to published stories via email in addition to RSS.
• They’ve made site navigation simpler and breadcrumbs are implemented site wide.
• Upcoming stories can be sorted in chronological order as well as by popularity.
• Duplicated story handling changed. Users are redirected to the existing submission (the original to their duplicate).
• Overall, there are many general usability and functionality fixes as well as improved spam handling.
Those working hard at Tipd.com say they aren’t stopping there. They are currently working on creating a private messaging system as well as a Facebook application. And, they are working on more tools for power users and publishers.
Tip’d looks like a pretty active site and if you are interested in financial topics, you’ll find some great info. It’s somewhat similar to Digg, so if you use Digg at all, you won’t have any trouble navigating around Tip’d. Check it out!

Tip'd is definitely a pretty cool idea. With the advent of social meadia platforms like pligg and swcms, more and more of these social bookmarking niche sites will be springing up.
Tipd.com seems cool as a social media site for business topics. Or else google would have not give them a PR 5 rating at such a short span.
Duplicate content and Spam are what destroy new social media sites. Let's see how Tipd handles the situation. It looks like a nice site and we need to give it a chance to prove itself and stand out.
@stefaniehartman, Tipd may have been officially launched on Nov 18 2008 but it was actually created on 07-Jun-2000. That's enough time to get high PR.
Do you think Tipd will take off? My guess is no.
Arnt business people too busy to waste time on a social media site like tipd?
I've joined Tip'd a couple of months ago. And to be frank I didn't see enough reason to go back and keep using it.. I'll give it a second chance though. We'll see.

After submitting 2-3 articles to tipd – both related to business, my IP was banned without even a warning! I’m a regular user of digg, stumbleupon, reddit and various other sites and this is the FIRST time this has happened. What’s worse is that there’s not even a warning system in place. I can’t even go to the site because I just get a white screen with “your ip has been banned”.
I emailed Tamar Weinberg (tip’d moderator) and she said warning users “is not an efficient use of time for moderators”. She refused to unban my IP even after apologizing to her if one of my 2-3 posts submitted were somehow off-topic. I told her I just want to read the site and promise not to submit, she still refused.
Yet their FAQ reads “The Tip’d staff is committed to being an open community, and avoiding the ban first, ask questions later attitude that seems to permeate so many other social media sites.”
Very hypocritical.

I think social media sites have peaked now, and will soon all be lost in the internet.
