Last month I started a “Social Media Hotlist” that contained hot topics for the month. Ideally you could use this to help aid in linkbait and content creation for social media. By looking at some of the topics and finding a way to relate to your field, you can harness the momentum of that topic and hopefully get more traction. Here’s what will be hot on social media this September!
- NFL
The regular season for the NFL starts in September, and for most football fans this month couldn’t come soon enough. The NFL seems to be loved by all social users, so start comparing/analyzing/baiting away. - Back-to-School
Most k-12 schools are back in session in September, so back-to-school content is hot at the moment. Hurry up and churn out any ideas around this topic while you can! - 9
Produced by Tim Burton, 9 is one of the most (only) talked about movies with a September release. The film is computer animated and is about a sentient rag doll, “9”, who is the last of his kind. - NCAA Football
The first D1 games are starting tonight, so pull out all of your collegiate linkbait and conference breakdowns & comparisons while it is still hot! - September 11th
Now 8 years out, tasteful tributes to those who lost their lives would be appreciated by social media users (and families). - Overdosing on Drugs
First it was MJ, now DJ AM has passed due to an overdose. Celebrities have been shortening their lifespans with prescription and non-prescription drugs. - Fall
September 22nd is the Autumnal equinox here in the northern hemisphere and that marks the inception of Fall. Anytime that there is a season change there are linkbait opportunities! - Marvel/Disney
Disney picking up the famed comic company has caused quite a buzz and will continue to do so for a good amount of time! - Glenn Beck

The ‘ Dungeon and Dragons’ of the sport fan world, fantasy football will be starting along with the NFL and people will be looking for that information. Ripping on this hobby also works well too!
