I Dramatically Increased My Productivity With One Easy Step

In addition to being Chris’s fiance, and Charlie’s mom, my job here at 10e20 is to manage projects. But lately, I’ve been feeling a little less productive than usual. I chalked it up to wedding stress. Hey, I’m having a bridezilla moment with 2 months left and tons left to do, no wonder I am a little distracted right? Nope. That’s not it. I just started training for the NYC marathon. Maybe I’m tired from all this running? Nope. That’s not it either.

This morning at 7 when I got to the office, I disabled my little bloglines notifier. Eureka.

Bloglines Notifier

I just turned it on to see what I’ve been missing. That’s 105 distractions I would have had today. 105 times I would have stopped what I was doing not being able to resist that little popup letting me know that something new is there for me to read. Has Digg dugg a hole too deep for itself yet? What is Google up to today? Have Britney and Paris become BFF again?

I may not know the answers to those questions yet, and I have no idea what Chris and Tamar are up to, but I do know that at 5PM I have accomplished more than I normally do by 9 or 10. Hey, I’ll also have some things to talk about with Chris tonight instead of just knowing that we both read the same things all day.

So, what other little changes in this new world of ours have you made to both keep up with the news and keep up with your work?

Added: I will be going through each and every one of these tonight though because I really am an RSS addict! So…. TELL ME MORE!

Ha! I had to do the same exact thing (as part of my New Year’s) and promised myself that I would only check rss twice per day (once in morning and once at night). It’s working and I am still able to read everything I need to.

I started using Blogdesk to manage my posts. Cut down on the time quite a bit. I don’t use any notifiers except Sharpreader’s.

I can’t believe I still don’t have the Bloglines notifier. :) I still have about 1000+ blogs to catch up to from when I was on “holiday.” ;)

I can’t stand those things at all. I get distracted enough with new emails coming in every few minutes but that’s necessary to stay on top of client issues, etc. But RSS? Naw. I read once a day at best. I’ve got a real job to do and can’t be constantly side-tracked.

Sometimes I do the same thing with Gmail Notifier and MSN…
