Digg Redesign Gets More Usable and Trendy

This morning, Digg launched a new version of its site with a number of interesting changes, among of which are usability and multimedia-focused:

It is now more usable. With users upgrading from smaller to larger, wider monitors, Digg removed the fixed width restriction to support these users’ viewing habits. This format is most noticeable when comments are viewed, instead spanning across the entire page rather than being confined to the fixed-width area.

It’s trend-friendly. Since video and podcasting are becoming more central forces in our online viewing habits, Digg has put a special emphasis on video: users can now view videos from well-known sites such as YouTube and Google Video in a special lightbox without even leaving the Digg site. Digg is also featuring the top 10 news stories and videos, which are updated in real time. And finally, it is now letting you share and Digg your favorite podcasts and podcast episodes too.

Digg doesn’t yet have 1 million users, so here’s hoping that their usability changes and focus on multimedia content will push that membership above 1,000,000.
