This post will be a recurring theme around specific colors and how they inspire the visual landscapes online, in print, on the screen and practically any place you can imagine. With the heat of the summer coming on let’s cool things off with the color blue (what better color to start with!) and how it has inspired others and how it may inspire you!
Color Palettes
Seeing blocks of solid color next to one another can give you a good feel as to the overall mood a group of colors creates. There are tons of social/community sites that help others create and share ideas. Whether the palette is analogous, complimentary, neutral or monochromatic palettes are a great place to start when fleshing out an idea for color. Check out the color palette used in the BlueGlass logo on kuler.

I am assuming we have all seen some of the more obvious sites using blue as a major color, like Facebook, Twitter and LinkdIn, so let’s check out some others getting creative with blue.

There you have it, inspired by the color… blue. Blue is a cool color that draws you in and cools things off. It can be both mesmerizing as the sky and as solid and strong as the ocean. As this post theme of color inspirations expands I will add more categories. If there are any categories or industries you would like to see added to the list please let me know!

You forgot the theatre: Blue Man group
You know, I had the graphic in there and all but felt it was another real obvious one ;) but good call!
Corporate (e.g.: Dell, Panasonic, DirecTV, Sun Microsystems, Ford, Old Navy, Nivea, Wal-Mart, The Weather Channel, HBO) and university logos (e.g.: Oxford, Columbia, Duke) often have a lot of (if not all in) blue as well.
Also, 2 out of 6 letters in Google’s logo are blue. ;)
First of all, great juxtaposition of the cooling blue to the “heat of the summer”, Patrick.
Blue is a truly amazing color, which is omnipresent. Besides the examples listed above, it it is also abundant in corporate logos (eg: Dell, Sun Microsystems, Wal-Mart, Kool-Aid and Ocean Spray (comes hand-in-hand with that heat vs cooling parallel), Old Navy, Oral-B, Nivea, etc, etc), as well as university logos (eg: Oxford, Columbia, Duke), which are either fully or mostly blue..
Also, two of the six letters in Google’s logo are blue. :)
Thanks Geno! Great finds. Blue is truly an omnipresent color. Duke is even called the Blue Devils ;)
Hi webmaster – This is by far the best looking site I’ve seen. It was completely easy to navigate and it was easy to look for the information I needed. Fantastic layout and great content! Every site should have that. Awesome job
